Hello – my name is David Read. I am an experienced, qualified Maths Teacher and one-to-one A-level Maths and A-level Further Maths Tutor. I’ve taught maths at Redhill Academy, Carlton-le-Willows, Arnold Hill Academy, South Notts Academy and the Trinity School Nottingham, specialising in A-level Maths and A-level Further Maths.
In the vast majority of cases the students/parents I have worked with are delighted with the quality of tuition and support offered. Please have a look at some testimonials from students/parents I have previously worked with.
Enquiries are welcome from the following groups of students:
A-levelMaths and A-level Further Maths I cover all A-level Maths topics including Mechanics and Statistics as well as all the compulsory content for A-level Further Maths. I work predominantly with students studying the AQA, Edexcel, OCR and OCR-MEI specifications.
Primary and Secondary (Years 7 – 11) I can put you in contact with a Tutor. I have worked closely with a number of exceptional teachers who tutor students of all abilities. I’m also in contact with other locally based Tutors.
Undergraduates I do not cover all areas of undergraduate maths. However I may be able to assist, either directly or by putting you in contact with someone who can help.
Adult Learners Anyone needing help with maths in order pass professional qualifications and to progress their careers.
My tutoring is aimed at developing the student’s depth of understanding, broader appreciation and enjoyment of mathematics. Students are strongly encouraged to adopt an independent and inquiring approach to their learning. This, in my opinion, is by far the best preparation for A-level exam success and further study.
Tuition should not be a stressful experience for the student. I try hard to ensure that my sessions are both enjoyable and (of course!) educational.
New clients normally arrange for an initial trial session before committing to a regular slot.
Students are encouraged to contact me between sessions for help with any maths questions they are struggling with. This support is completely free for all regular students.
Where? – Tuition takes place either online or ‘in person’ at my family home in Gedling (see photo below) where I have a classroom fully equipped for teaching. For obvious reasons ‘in person’ tuition is currently subject to sensible social distancing and hygiene requirements.
Online Tuition – I am set up to provide ‘state-of-the-art’ online maths tuition. I am very happy to discuss online tutoring for you/your child. I fully understand the convenience and flexibility of online tuition and I regularly work online with students locally, in other parts of the country and worldwide.
How Long? – Lessons normally last 1 hour. A minimum of 1 hour’s tuition per week is recommended for A-level students.
How Much? – Rates are competitive. I do occasionally tutor students in pairs, in which case the cost per student is significantly reduced. Full details on request.
Term Dates for 2021-22 My term dates for the current academic year are as follows:
Summer Term – 25.4.22 to 22.7.22
If you’re looking for a tutor for a subject other than maths, I’m happy put you in contact with some high quality local tutors. If it’s a physics or chemistry tutor you’re looking for, I can highly recommend Andrew Gibson who can be contacted at theonlinephysicstutor.com
Please don’t hesitate to contact me on 07880 743782 to discuss. Thank you.
