Hi – I’m David Read and I’m a fully qualified, experienced Maths Teacher who now works full-time as a professional Tutor. I specialise in tutoring A-level Maths and A-level Further Maths. I’ve taught maths at Redhill Academy, Carlton-le-Willows, Arnold Hill Academy, South Notts Academy and the Trinity School Nottingham, specialising in A-level Maths and A-level Further Maths.
I offer a friendly, effective and exceptionally high quality A-level Maths/Further Maths Tutoring service. In the vast majority of cases both students and parents are genuinely delighted with the quality of tuition and support offered. Please have a look at some testimonials from students/parents I have previously worked with.

Enquiries are welcome from the following groups of students:
- A-level Maths and A-level Further Maths I cover all A-level Maths topics including Mechanics and Stats. I also cover all the compulsory content and the Mechanics and Stats options for A-level Further Maths. I work predominantly with students studying the AQA, Edexcel, OCR and OCR-MEI specifications.
- Undergraduates I do not cover all areas of undergraduate maths. However I may be able to assist, either directly or by putting you in contact with someone who can help.
- Adult Learners Anyone needing help with maths in order pass professional qualifications and to progress their careers.
My tuition aims to achieve the following objectives:
- Enjoyment of maths. (Yes – it is possible!)
- Strengthening the student’s depth of mathematical understanding.
- Developing students’ questioning techniques.
- Encouraging students to think critically.
- Equipping students with the skills to ‘self-teach’ and learn independently wherever possible.
This, in my opinion, is by far the best preparation for A-level exam success and further study.
Tuition should not be a stressful experience for the student. I try hard to ensure that my sessions are both enjoyable and (of course!) educational.
New clients normally arrange for an initial trial session before committing to a regular slot.
Students are strongly encouraged to ask questions and contact me at any time between sessions for support with any maths problems that they are struggling with.
Where? – Tuition takes place either online or ‘face-to-face’ at my family home in Gedling (see photo below) where I have an air-conditioned classroom fully equipped for teaching.
Online Tuition – I am set up to provide ‘state-of-the-art’ online maths tuition. I am very happy to discuss online tutoring for you/your child. I fully understand the convenience and flexibility of online tuition and I regularly work online with students locally, in other parts of the country and worldwide.
How Long? – Lessons normally last 1 hour. A minimum of 1 hour’s tuition per week is recommended for A-level students.
How Much? – Please contact me for full details of my tuition fees. I can tutor students in pairs where appropriate, in which case the cost per student is significantly reduced.
Term Dates for 2026-27 My term dates for the new academic year are as follows:
Autumn Term – 1.9.26 to 19.12.26
Spring Term – 4.1.27 to 20.3.27
Summer Term – 30.3.27 to 16.7.27
I do currently have availability for new students – so please don’t hesitate to contact me.
Summer Holidays 2026 – I am available, by arrangement, to support students over the summer. Also, if you’re thinking of possibly booking tuition for your child from September, I can arrange a ‘trial session’ over the holidays. (The tutor is the one ‘on trial’ – not your child!)
If you’re looking for a tutor for a subject other than maths, I’m happy put you in contact with some high quality local tutors. If it’s a physics or chemistry tutor you’re looking for, I can highly recommend Andrew Gibson who can be contacted at theonlinephysicstutor.com
Please don’t hesitate to contact me on 07880 743782 to discuss. Thank you.
